Homeopathy will remain covered under the Swiss basic health insurance
The Swiss Federal Council decided without debate to retain insurance coverage for complementary medicine, including homeopathy, as part of basic health insurance.
Maintaining coverage reflects the wishes of the Swiss people, who supported adding these treatments to basic health insurance in a 2009 referendum. Although some parliamentarians have suggested limiting coverage, the Council of States has mostly dismissed these proposals. Furthermore, the government has indicated that any potential savings from such restrictions would be insignificant.
As another survey from 2024 shows, the public clearly supports integrative healthcare: 2 out of 3 people in Switzerland use complementary medicine. This decision not only protects patients’ freedom of choice but also ensures equal access for all.
