Title addition “Professional Master” for Swiss Homeopaths with a Federal Diploma

European Politics

As of 1 October 2026, Switzerland has introduced a new title addition for graduates of higher vocational education and training (VET). The change is part of a package of measures to strengthen higher VET that enters into force on that date. Holders of a federal diploma obtained through an Advanced Federal Examination (Höhere Fachprüfung) may now add “Professional Master” to their protected title.

This directly concerns homeopathy. Since 2015, practitioners in Switzerland have been able to obtain the title “Naturheilpraktikerin/Naturheilpraktiker mit eidg. Diplom” through an Advanced Federal Examination, with homeopathy as one of four recognised disciplines alongside Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Traditional European Naturopathy. The examination is organised by the Organisation der Arbeitswelt Alternativmedizin Schweiz (OdA AM). Holders of this diploma in homeopathy are therefore entitled to use the new addition. The official English title is Naturopathic Practitioner in Homeopathy, Professional Master.

The addition may only be used together with the protected title, placed after it and separated by a comma; improper use can be sanctioned. The rule applies retroactively to all graduates, regardless of when they qualified.

For the international homeopathic community, this is a welcome step: it makes the level of the Swiss qualification easier to understand and compare across borders.
